Dear Wine Lover,

Just released… The 2004 Flying Goat Pinots

10% off a case and 5% off six bottles

2004 Dierberg Vineyard Pinot Noir $37.99 per bottle

This 10 year old vineyard located in the Santa Maria Valley is planted with the new Dijon clones and few older traditional clones.   Winemaker Norm Yost chose Clone 115 a Dijon clone which provides backbone and body.  The other clone is 13, which is commonly known in the industry as “Martini”.  The grapes were de-stemmed to small open top bins here they fermented and were punch downs 2-3 times daily. The must was then pressed off and the free run wine was gravity fed to barrels for 12 months aging on the lees. This wine starts out in the nose with fruit nuances of black cherry, blueberry and plum jam.  Once it opens up there is an underlying layer of cola, vanilla and some earthy tones. The wine has dark ruby color; the body is smooth with lingering acidity.  This young wine is showing a firm finish, but is developing a very round and lush palate which lingers on the back of your tongue. Case Production: 267

2004 Rancho Santa Rosa Pinot Noir $39.99 per bottle

The Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard is a 240 acre vineyard planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  The property is located on the north side of Highway 246 in the Santa Rita Hills.  This 6 year old property has been called “Little Burgundy”, referring to the subdivision of the property into 35 different parcels. Each parcel is planted to the new Dijon clones with appropriate rootstock matched to the soil.  The cool morning fog moderates the temperatures in the Santa Rita Hills; this is due to the west-east orientation of the region to the Pacific Ocean.   The Dijon clone 667 was used to make this wine.  After aging for 12 months in new and old French oak barrels, each barrel was gently racked to a tank for blending. Very minimal filtration was employed prior to bottling; this was done to capture maximum fruit flavors and aromas.  The wine has deep garnet color; in the nose there are aromas of fresh blueberries, cranberries and smoke.  Mouth coating tannins give the wine a firm structure which is backed up with flavors of wild berry, spice and plum jam.  Enjoy this wine now or cellar through 2010. Case Production: 229

2004 Rio Vista Vineyard Pinot Noir $41.99 per bottle

This is the second year of making wine from the Rio Vista Vineyard. This vineyard is located on the south side of Santa Rosa Road just as you enter the Santa Rita Hills from Highway 101. In 2004 we purchased Clone 115, Clone 777 and 667 Pinot Noir grapes from Rio Vista Vineyard.  Each of the clones was harvested separately during a somewhat usually warm growing season.  The clones were separated during fermentation and pressing of the wine. After pressing each wine was gravity fed to barrels to minimize oxygen pick-up. Using old world winemaking methods and minimal intervention the wine was allowed to age to its natural perfection.  Aged for 12 months in new and old French Oak barrels, the wine was racked using inert gas to push the wine instead of pumping. Then all the clones were blended together to provide balance and complexity.   Prior to bottling the wine was lightly filtered.  This wine has wonderful aromas of black plum, smoked meat and coffee. The mid-plate is nicely integrated with ripe Pinot Noir flavors, cranberries, spice and rich lingering tannins. This wine still has youthful character; with further cellaring it could age for 3-5 years. Case Production: 499
