2007 Walter Hansel Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc $14.89
Josh Raynolds, Int’l Wine Cellar: Vibrant citrus, dried pear and beeswax aromas reminded me of a Loire Chenin Blanc. Firm, dry, sharply focused lemon and pear flavors display good depth and finishing cut. No herbal or grassy character here, but there’s an attractively fleshy texture and deep fruit. Pretty interesting stuff.
2006 Walter Hansel Estate Russian River Valley Chardonnay $28.89
Robert Parker 92 points: The 2006 Walter Hansel Vineyard Chardonnay is a fleshier, more opulent, tropical fruit-scented wine than any of the 2005s. It offers more up-front fruit and seems to be a quicker-term drinker than any of the Chardonnays from the preceding vintage. It is a fleshy, fruit-dominated beauty.
2006 Walter Hansel Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir $31.89
Robert Parker 92 points: The 2006 Walter Hansel Vineyard Pinot Noir also has the same pomegranate-like notes and a sweet nose of berry fruit intermixed with some dried herbs, earth, cola, and spice. The wine has copious up-front fruit, and seems to be a candidate for drinking over the next 4-5 years.
