Dear Wine Lover,

Peter Hunken, Assistant Winemaker for all the wineries we will be tasting, has just produced his first vintage of his very own Syrah "Hocus Pocus". Come meet one of the talented young up-and-coming winemakers from Santa Barbara.

Wow... Wow... What an exciting line-up!!!

2005 Hocus Pocus Santa Rita Hills & Santa Ynez Valley Santa Barbara County Syrah $16.99 Production: 599 cases
The 2005 Hocus Pocus Syrah is a supple, almost silky syrah. It is dark, dark violet in color and has abundant herbal aromas of thyme, anise, and lavender. Loads of blueberry and blackberry fruit with a little bit of sweet wood and some mineral and herbal notes. Not as peppery or as dusty as many syrahs, it is also not overly oaky since it spends only 10 months in the barrel--20% in new oak, 80% in used oak.
2004 Stolpman Vineyards Estate Santa Ynez Valley Santa Barbara County Syrah $23.89
The 2004 Syrah Estate, which includes a dollop of Viognier, exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as beautifully uplifting aromas of black fruits, flowers, and a hint of smoky barrique. Rich, full-bodied, opulent, luscious, and intense, it should drink well for 5-6 years.
2005 Holus Bolus Santa Ynez Valley Santa Barbara County Syrah $27.89
In the glass this is dark, opaque, and practically purple. It has tar, blackberry/raspberry, black tea, and a little bit of geranium on the nose. In the mouth this wine is positively enormous. There is a lot of black fruit and a lot of tannin, echoing the nose, and the finish was full of earth, coffee, spice and a little hint of rose.
2005 Stolpman Vineyards San Ynez Valley Santa Barbara County Sangiovese $29.89
Sangiovese's popularity has been on the increase as people have discovered the dense cherry fruit flavors, elegant structure, yet full bodied nature of this varietal.
2005 Jelly Roll Santa Ynez Valley Santa Barbara County Syrah $34.89 Production: 192 cases
This wine like the 2004 was aged completely in neutral oak and sourced from the Stolpman and Larner vineyards in Santa Ynez. A complex Syrah which shows big and smooth with plenty of sappy, sweet richness on the palate. Drink this wine now or enjoy it over the next 5-6 years.
2003 Jelly Roll Santa Ynez Valley Santa Barbara County Syrah $39.89 Production: 125 cases
This wine was aged completely in neutral oak, was sourced from the Stolpman (55%) and Larner (45%) vineyards. A complex, northern Rhone-styled Syrah, it exhibits copious amounts of peppery, olive, black raspberry, and cassis characteristics. This elegant, concentrated red possesses medium to full body, outstanding purity, and sweet, supple tannin. Enjoy it over the next 6-7 years.
2004 Piedrasassi California Syrah $48.89 Production: 399 cases
