Mark Neal's family has been growing and managing grapes in Napa Valley for almost forty years and currently manages nearly 1,500 acres of vineyards for some of Napa's most prestigious and renowned wineries. Neal Family Vineyards was created in 1997 to take advantage of Mark's experience with grapes grown in the Napa Valley. Many of the sites Mark uses to source grapes have been under Neal's vineyard management since 1968.
2006 Neal Family Vineyards Rutherford Napa Valley Zinfandel $23.89
Mark's Notes: 2006 was a great year for our Zinfandel vineyards, yielding lovely maturity and color. The recently re-planted vineyard at the Neal home ranch in Rutherford is providing delicious organically grown fruit. Using just enough Petite Syrah in the blend, we achieved the signature Neal Family Vineyards aroma, flavor and structure. Aged for 13 months in 50% new Hungarian and French oak barrels, the result is a delightful wine with complex flavors and color.
2005 Neal Family Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon $44.89
Mark's Notes: While most Napa vineyards in 2005 produced record crops, the majority of our fruit comes from mountain and hillside vineyards that experience wildly different growing conditions. While the valley floor was ‘setting’ a huge crop in the spring, the mountains were a month behind and the resulting bloom weather in those sites was less than ideal. Our crop yields in the hills were close to half of what we hoped for but the resulting quality is perhaps the best yet at Neal Family.
