Dear Wine Lover,

Golden's Wines is a new label started in 2005 by retired college professor Barry Golden. After helping out Brian Loring during harvest for the past several years, Barry asked Brian if he could help him make a small amount of wine to sell.

Four barrels later..... Do we have a new cult Pinot Noir?

The critics all love it!!!

Was $46.00... Sale $39.99

2005 Golden's Wines Rancho Ontiveros Santa Maria Pinot Noir Production: 49 cases
Pinot Report: Medium ruby purple color; slightly closed, some red cherry and spice aromas; ripe, rich, lots of red cherry and earthy notes, bit of tannin, good structure and balance; long finish. The tasty red cherry fruit and earthy complexities really come out of this wine with some air; it’s pretty tight and closed when first opened.
Wine Spectator: Distinct for its tangy, tart cherry and wild berry flavors that are vivid and crisp, with lively acidity. Shows a mix of boysenberry and pomegranate on the palate, ending with firm, ripe tannins. Drink now through 2011.
Stephen Tanzer: Good Full medium red. Musky, reduced aromas of blackberry, licorice and spices. Big, round, supple and rich, with very good ripeness and breadth to its dark berry flavors. Sound acidity frames and leavens the wine's lush texture. Offers a good combination of extract and thickness with verve. The slightly dry, dusty tannins are still a bit youthfully tight.
2005 Golden's Wines Turner Vineyard Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir Production: 49 cases
Pinot Report: Medium ruby purple color; bit closed at first, some spice and pepper notes; big, rich, moderate tannins, deep red cherry flavors with earthy, smoky notes; good structure and balanced; long finish. This is a big Pinot with quite a bit of cherry and earthy notes once it has the time to open up in the glass.
Stephen Tanzer: Good bright, dark red. Complex nose offers black cherry, herbs, licorice, cured tobacco and potpourri. Rich, pliant, round and full, but the overall impression is one of airiness, with no excess weight. Lush, suave Pinot fruit is nicely framed by plush, ripe tannins. Finishes with noteworthy persistence.
