2005 J. Wilkes Solomon Hills Block 3 Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir $39.99
The 2005 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills Vineyard Block 3 is the most elegant effort here. Offering sweet strawberry and cherry fruit, medium body, notes of roasted herbs and spice, and a clean finish, it should be consumed over the next 3-4 years.
2004 J. Wilkes Block Q Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa Barbara Pinot Noir $54.99
This Pinot shows deep ruby red in the glass with raspberry, currants and Asian spices are matched with vanilla and smoke. On the palate we experience strawberry jam on toast with a rich and full mouth feel and a very long finish.
2005 J. Wilkes Block Q Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa Barbara Pinot Noir $59.99
My favorite here is the medium ruby-hued 2005 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Block Q. This sexy, sensual, full-bodied effort possesses supple tannins, outstanding ripeness and purity, and copious quantities of strawberry, black currant, and cherry fruit, earth, subtle herbs, and a touch of background oak. It offers beautiful sweetness and ripe fruit (from flavor, not residual sugar). Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
2005 J. Wilkes Bien Nacido Vineyards Pinot Blanc $18.99
This wine has a beautiful pale straw color and rich fragrant with white flowers and Meyer lemon peel with hints of a Muscat-like character. Rich tropical flavors of banana, pineapple and melon explode on the palate. Lively and juicy with delicious apple-pear-like notes with hints Meyer lemon and cream. The full mouthfeel is complemented by a minerality that adds complexity. Very rich in the mouth, but with a surprisingly long, clean finish that is very refreshing.
