The long, dark finish has lots of power in reserve, but shows fine harmony already. The best-balanced vintage so far of this powerful Syrah. Drink now through 2013.

Wine Spectator 92 points: Dark and winy up front, with ambitious mocha and loam notes leading the way for fig, raspberry and red plum fruit, followed by a brighter profile on the finish, where spice and licorice hints kick in as fresh acidity provides solid drives from behind. 90% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2011. The hiring of California-based winemaker Paul Hobbs as their consultant has certainly paid off, as the quality of Toso wines keep improving.

Robert Parker 93 points: The 2006 Shiraz “Jimmy Section” is slightly muted aromatically but with coaxing aromas of pain grille, tar, blueberry, and blackberry emerge. This leads to a full-bodied wine with gobs of spicy black fruits, ripe flavors, and for a wine of this size, surprising elegance. Give it 4-6 years in the cellar and drink it through 2027.
