Dear Wine Lover,
Don and Ann Huckfeldt, longtime Napa Valley residents, created Igneous Wines after they were able to secure a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Thorevilos Vineyard, a vineyard owned and operated by David Abreu in St. Helena. Don has hired winemaker Nils Venge (Saddleback Cellars, Plumpjack, Del Dotto, Bacio Divino, and Keenan) who has crafted some of Napa Valley's most outstanding wines and was the first American to make a wine that received a perfect 100 point score from the internationally renowned wine critic Robert Parker. Don has always had a passion for geology and especially volcanic rock formations – he owns a water-well drilling company, which has given him an appreciation for the composition of the soil and terroir of the Napa Valley. The name originated with igneous which is Latin for, rocks of volcanic origin or molten magma involved in intense heat, thus making Igneous the perfect name for this wine.
2003 Igneous Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon $84.99 Very Limited
Aged in 90% new French Oak, this wine eclipses nearly the entirety of the red fruit spectrum! In an instant, feminine and elegant plush, ripe red cherry and red berry fruits lift from the glass. A bit deeper in the aromatic, a light pepper spice surfaces. On the palate, bright black cherry surrounds a delicate vanillin core and the oak undertones support and package the entire experience. This 100% Cabernet shows wonderful and seamless tannin/acid structure from the first entry on the palate all the way to the back of the finish. While clearly still showing its youth, the overall effect of this Cabernet is pure elegance, with a harmonious balance that makes this wine a pleasure to drink. 285 cases produced
