Dear Wine Lover,

I can’t say enough good things about Behrens and Hitchcock. This is the type of winery operation that gives hope to aspiring home winemakers who want to make it in the big time. They have followed their dreams, unearthed top vineyards that were available to everybody, and are making non-interventionalistic wines of extraordinary personality and character. -Robert Parker

2003 Behrens & Hitchcock Herrick-Moulds Cabernet Sauvignon $64.99
Robert Parker 92-94: The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Herrick-Moulds (100% Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards on Howell Mountain and Oakville) is a full-bodied, big, muscular effort boasting a dense purple color as well as a sweet nose of vanilla, black currants, cedar, and licorice. A toasty oak component adds a pleasant nuance to this well-balanced, full-bodied Cabernet. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years.
2003 Behrens & Hitchcock 10th Anniversary Napa Valley Cuvee $59.99
Robert Parker 91: It is hard to believe Behrens and Hitchcock already have ten vintages under their belt, but the 2003 Tenth Anniversary speaks to that festive celebratory date. A 375-case blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and 7% Cabernet Franc, with 15.3% alcohol, it offers loads of creme de cassis characteristics along with hints of licorice, tobacco leaf, and smoke in a medium to full-bodied, pure, concentrated, dense personality. This beauty combines elegance and a measured style of richness that is not always seen at this winery. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
2004 Behrens & Hitchcock Chien Lunatique Napa Valley Cuvee $59.99
Robert Parker 91: Named after Lucy, the owners’ wild and crazy Jack Russell terrier, the 2004 Chien Lunatique Syrah from the Page Nord Vineyard is a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Cabernet Franc. Its super dense blue/purple color is accompanied by a big, projected, flamboyant nose of blue and black fruits, crushed rocks, flowers, and smoky oak. Rich and concentrated with low acidity as well as tremendous density, it is a delicious homage to this irrepressible dog who has survived collisions with fork lifts, large vehicles, and rattlesnakes.
2004 Behrens & Hitchcock Alder Springs Mendocino County Cuvee $44.99
Robert Parker 91: Concentrated, nuanced, and complex is the 2004 Alder Springs Cuvee, a blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 25% Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its deep saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sweet aromas of blueberries, white flowers, smoke, and earth. Dense, full-bodied, and unctuously-textured, it will provide a complex, hedonistic mouthful of wine over the next 7-8 years.
