Dear Wine Lover,

Anthill Farms Winery has two unchanging winemaking goals: to make wines that express the growing site and the characteristics of the vintage. Simply put, we think these wines taste great! With these small case productions and our limited allotment, these wines will go fast!!!

2005 Anthill Farms Windsor Oaks Vineyard Chalk Hill Russian River Syrah $21.99
Vineyard Notes: We always want to create a wine or two each year that is food-friendly and a joy to drink, but is still crafted with the same care and attention to detail as our Pinots. Our first release of Syrah comes from this larger vineyard that lays astride the Russian River and Chalk Hill appellations on a series of hills southwest of Healdsburg. The site was originally planted in the 1980s by John Kongsgaard for Balverne Winery. The Syrah is a newer planting that sits on the Russian River side of the property and is planted to the compelling, Estrella/Chapoutier clone. Soils are a mix of light sands and gravels with larger round river stones punctuating the rows, which themselves are remnants of an old watercourse. The Syrah yielded around 2.25 tons per acre.
Wine Notes: The nose is broad and highly expressive, with notes of aged meat, violet powder, and currant. With air the wine becomes steadily more perfumed, with subtle hints of green peppercorn and dark chocolate. Its powerful flavors glide through a long finish marked by violets, pepper, and currant. This Syrah is structured by chalky tannins that will match an array of heartier dishes. Production: 134 cases
2005 Anthill Farms
Comptche Ridge Vineyard Mendocino County Pinot Noir
$35.99
Vineyard Notes: Our first release from this remote, two-acre vineyard shows the elegance and grace of cool climate Pinot Noir. The vineyard lies in a temperate area on fine sandy/clay Franciscan soils above the town of Comptche, just inland from the northern Mendocino County coast. Owned and managed by John Weir, Comptche Ridge is dry-farmed and is guided by organic principles to promote the health of the land and to improve wine quality. Swan selection is planted exclusively here. The vineyard yielded one ton per acre.
Wine Notes: This wine from Comptche Ridge exemplifies the ethereal character of Pinot Noir. Spicy, perfumed aromatics, a lush texture, and long flavors are given structure by subtle, chalky tannins. Aromas of red cherry liqueur and briary cinnamon dominate the nose. Elegant and sweet flavors echo the aromas along with nuances of forest floor and cacao. Production: 75 cases

2005 Anthill Farms Demuth Vineyard Anderson Sonoma Pinot Noir $37.99
Vineyard Notes: The Demuth family’s vineyard is only a mile up the road from Abbey-Harris and shares similar, though less rocky, soils. On a ridge-top at 1400-1600 feet, Demuth is exposed to stronger winds and cooler nights than its neighbor lower down the hill. Our two 1.5 acre blocks function like two vineyards: the terraced rows of the Wädenswil clone form one section, while the Pommard block sits on a shelf a bit lower down the slope. The afternoon winds, cool temperatures, and twenty-year-old vines create a wine of great depth and perfumed elegance. This vineyard yielded three-quarter tons per acre.
Wine Notes: Elegance and purity are the hallmarks of our Demuth. The cool temperatures preserve the wine’s backbone, which endows the wine with balance and finesse. Intense black cherry and rose petal dominate the nose. Similar flavors show in the mouth, with long finishing flavors of cherry and cacao. Very low yields have created great depth and a broad, resinous structure to the wine this year. Production: 102 cases
