Dear Wine Lover,

The force behind this small Rhone Ranger project is top notch Winemaker Steve Clifton (Brewer Clifton & Palmina Wines). All the grapes for Alder's wines are from the Alisos Vineyard in the Los Alamos area of Santa Barbara County. The fruit for the 2003 syrah came from two different sections of the Alisos Vineyard, the Old Vine block and the Hilltop block. Steve feels that great wine is made in the vineyard.

Only 289 cases were produced... We were able to obtain 10 more cases...

While it lasts... Sale $19.99... Was $30.00...

2003 Alder Alisos Vineyard Santa Barbara County Syrah
Parker 90 points: This deep purple-hued Syrah boasts a rich, sumptuous bouquet of chocolate-infused cassis along with hints of wood and underbrush. With superb fruit on the attack, impressive opulence, and a long finish, it can be drunk now and over the next 5-6 years.
Winemaker's Notes: A huge wine - almost black in the glass, with sparkles of ruby as it is swirled. Aromas of black fruit - blackberries and blackcurrants, maybe some red plums - are very apparent and there's a hint of fennel seed in there. The flavors confirm this, and also reveal the well balanced oak and fruit tannins - there's a hint of cedar on the long, elegant finish. Very definitely a wine to serve with food.
