Robert Parker: This 2002 reveals the vintage’s cool climate character in its restrained aromas and flavors as well as its European-like elegance and ripe flavor. The 2002 Shiraz 1928 (from a vineyard planted that year) was aged in a combination of 40% new American and 60% used French wood. Dark ruby-colored, with an attractive bouquet of black currants, cherries, berries, dried herbs, earth, and spice box, it is an elegant, finesse-styled, medium-bodied Shiraz to consume over the next 7-8 years.

Wine Spectator: Smooth and generous, a lively mouthful of black cherry, black pepper and licorice flavors, a meaty note adding to the finish. Drink now through 2012.
