Dear
Wine Lover,
Mike Officer, a home
winemaker who began his own winery, Carlisle,
in 1998, while he was still working as a software developer. The huge success
he enjoyed among his mailing list customers, who quickly recognized his
dedication to serious winemaking from old vineyard sites, allowed him to
abandon his software career to become a full-time owner and winemaker. These are all big, but incredibly well-balanced, fresh wines.
Officer is not afraid to push ripeness to the edge, but, remarkably, the wines
are never over the top, revealing tremendous textures, aromatics, and ripeness.
He has become one of the top three Zinfandel producers in northern California, and some of
the old field blends planted by Italian immigrants over a century ago. -Robert Parker
We have limited quantities available of the following
wines.
2002 Carlisle Winery
Carlisle Vineyard
Russian River
Valley Zinfandel $38.89
Robert Parker: 94 points!!! As for
the 2002s, this was a top vintage for Carlisle.
The general practice of picking ripe fruit from primarily
ancient vineyards and completely destemming resulted
in outstanding offerings. The 2002 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard (a blend
of 84% Zinfandel and 16% Alicante Bouchet, Petite
Sirah, Grand Noir, and Carignan) was harvested in
late October. After indigenous fermentations in small open-top fermenters, the wine was moved to French oak (one-third
new). Bottled unfined and unfiltered (as are all the Carlisle wines), it offers up a sensational perfume of
raspberries, blackberries, pepper, flowers, and lead pencil shavings. This is a
great Zinfandel from a vineyard formerly owned by De Loach (then called Peletti Ranch). Run, don’t walk, and snatch up as many
bottles of this beauty as you can.
2002 Carlisle Winery

pepper, blackberries, raspberries, and melted road tar. Full-bodied, with super

this stunning Zinfandel can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years. 200 cases produced
